Harvey Weinstein Faces Retrial in New York: Statement from Jane Doe’s Attorney

April 15, 2025

NEW YORK, NY – Outten & Golden LLP is proud to represent Jane Doe, a brave woman who will testify against disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein during his criminal retrial in New York. Weinstein is charged with sexually assaulting Doe in a lower Manhattan hotel in 2006, for which he faces one count of first-degree criminal sexual act.

Lindsay Goldbrum, an attorney for Doe, previously represented one of three Molineux witnesses (also known as “prior bad acts” witnesses) who testified in Weinstein’s first criminal trial in 2020, during which he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

On April 25, 2024, the New York Court of Appeals ruled 4-3 that the testimony of the Molineux witnesses was improper and ordered a new trial. Weinstein remains in custody due to a separate conviction in Los Angeles.

On September 18, 2024, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced a new indictment against Weinstein following Doe’s testimony before a grand jury. That indictment was later combined with charges from two other women who testified in Weinstein’s earlier trial.

Doe is represented by Goldbrum and O&G partner Gregory Chiarello.

Statement from Lindsay Goldbrum, attorney at Outten & Golden LLP:

“This trial marks a pivotal moment in the fight against sexual abuse. More than seven years after #MeToo, this case will test how far we’ve advanced in our collective understanding of sexual assault, power dynamics, and what it means to be a survivor. A conviction will send a strong signal that our legal system is catching up—and that it’s worth speaking out even when the odds seem insurmountable.

“Jane Doe is ready to tell the jury what happened to her. While her story is not mine to tell, I will say this: she is one of the strongest women I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. As she’s shared her experience with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, she has always been crystal clear about what happened to her. I believe her. The Manhattan District Attorney believes her. And I am confident that after jurors hear all the evidence, they will believe her too.”
