Harvey Weinstein Trial Update: Opening Statements

April 23, 2025

NEW YORK, NY – Outten & Golden LLP is honored to represent Kaja Sokola, a courageous woman who plans to testify against Harvey Weinstein during his ongoing criminal trial in New York.

Ms. Sokola will testify that Mr. Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in a Manhattan hotel in 2006. Her identity was previously not known to the public in connection with the trial.

Opening statements took place Wednesday, April 23, with the prosecution and defense each outlining their case before a jury of seven women and five men.

Ms. Sokola is represented by O&G partner Gregory Chiarello and associate Lindsay Goldbrum.

Statement from Lindsay Goldbrum, attorney at Outten & Golden LLP:

“Kaja Sokola is testifying because she believes in justice and accountability. In 2019, she bravely filed a lawsuit under New York’s Child Victims Act alleging that Weinstein sexually assaulted her when she was only 16 years old. Now, for the first time, she is sharing another deeply traumatic experience—one that falls within the scope of this criminal case and happened when she was 19 and Weinstein was 54. She is doing this not just for herself, but for all survivors. I stand with Kaja and every woman who has had the courage to speak out against Harvey Weinstein.”
