Workers File Suit Against Waldorf-Astoria

Nine former Waldorf-Astoria employees filed suit against the luxury hotel on Thursday, saying management skimmed their tips.

The workers, all banquet waiters, some who had worked on Park Avenue for 20 years, said they did not receive all the gratuities customers set aside for them.

Instead, according to the lawsuit, hotel management and Hilton Worldwide Inc., violated state labor laws by retaining “service charge” gratuities, intended entirely for the waiters.

The former employees want to recover all misallocated gratuities for everyone who worked as a banquet waiter in the hotel’s private dining events since Feb. 22, 2004.
